Companies sign up to cut plastic pollution
Companies including Coca-Cola and ASDA along with 40 other major brands have signed up to a pact to cut plastic pollution over the next seven years. The new initiative UK Plastics Pact has been created by the UK Government, Trade Association and Campaigners. The 40 companies who have signed up to the UK Plastics Pact are responsible for more than 80% of plastic packaging products sold through UK supermarkets.
The pledges to tackle plastic pollution over the next seven years include:
- Eliminate difficult or unnecessary single use plastic packaging though better design
- Make 100% of plastic packaging reusable or recyclable or compostable
- Make sure 70% of plastic packaging is recyclable or compostable
- 30% of all plastic packaging to include recycled material
